I ran a launch where people opened the emails, people clicked, and nobody bought. I'd built something I wanted, for an audience I didn't have. I wrote a whole essay about it.
$147 for the year at the founding price, with audio lessons that take about an hour a week, homework included.
This one's made up. Yours will look different.
The Society of Small Experiments is my new membership.
Our big experiment for 2027 is Money Flow, one small money experiment a week, for anyone who has a business or is thinking of starting one.
I'm doing every one of them in my own business too, and I'll tell you how mine went.
You check your email for sales notices and there's nothing there, so you check again after lunch, just in case.
All of that comes down to how your business is set up right now, and you can change the setup.
Most zero dollar days come down to one of three things. Pick yours.
The offer's closed, or it's still a good idea living in your head.
Try this today: find one thing you already have, like a recording or a template. Give it a name and a price, then make a checkout link. That's the Week 1 experiment.
It's for sale, and it's tucked away on a page nobody visits.
Try this today: put the link in your email signature. Then mention it in your next email, even with nothing launching.
People thought "oh, that looks nice," and there was no easy way from there to buying it.
Try this today: open your own checkout link on your phone and buy it the way a stranger would. Fix the first thing that annoys you.
Those three are your offer, your people and your path. When sales are slow, one of them is usually the weak spot, and every experiment this year works on at least one.
The Society of Small Experiments is my membership for people who'd rather try something and see what happens. Life is an experiment, so let's run a few.
Every year we run one big experiment together. In 2027 it's Money Flow, and next year may be something else entirely. We may run smaller ones along the way too, for a month or a quarter.
It comes to you a bit like mail, with a lesson and a Postcard every week and Postmarked, my letter, once a month.
A lot of us learned to run a business in bursts. You build something, launch it, work flat out for two weeks, some money comes in, and then it goes very still.
Launches are fine, but when they're the only way money arrives, the roller coaster wears you out.
Money Flow works more like a garden. You plant a lot of small things. Some take a while. Once they're growing, they keep producing while you get on with your life.
Each week you try one small thing, see what happens and write it down. Some will work and some will flop, and both count, because we're finding out what brings money in for you.
Templates and recordings of what you've taught. You make them once and they keep selling.
A paid letter or a membership. Someone says yes once and it carries on.
Tools you already use and like, with a link that earns a commission.
A one-hour session or a small done-for-you job, to fill the gaps while the others grow.
You don't need all four running right now. Most of us start with one or two.
When I worked out my enough number, the business's share came to about $3,000 a month, which is about $100 a day.
It stopped being a scary number the moment I saw it that way, because a hundred dollars a day is a few small things.
These four are from my own business. You'll hear the rest as the year goes.
I ran a launch where people opened the emails, people clicked, and nobody bought. I'd built something I wanted, for an audience I didn't have. I wrote a whole essay about it.
I haven't promoted Geek in Your Pocket in a long time. Some of those subscriptions still renew every month anyway. It's the first garden I ever planted, and I didn't know I was planting it.
My readers click my recommendations far more often than they click my own offers. That stream deserves a bit more love than I'd been giving it.
A new idea feels much more fun than finishing the link to the last one. Part of why I'm doing this year with you is to make myself finish the path first.
Yes, that's an oyster.
A new lesson opens, about 15 minutes of audio. Your Postcard comes by email.
Work through the short worksheet and the workbook pages, right inside the lesson.
Run the week's experiment. The homework page walks you through each step.
Take thirty seconds with your tracker. Did any money come in today? If not, what's your best guess why?
Tell us how it went in the Break Room, our community. I'll be posting mine there too.
My letter to you, where I show how the money, the making and the rest of my life fit together. It comes as a page you can print and collect.
Tap a season to see every week.
Some of these won't suit you, so skip those and carry on with the next one.
$147 for the whole year at the founding price. That's less than $3 an experiment.
I want in for the yearI cannot tell you what you'll make, because every business is different. What I can tell you is that you'll have tried a lot of small things and you'll know which ones suited you.
If a little money came in most days, what would you do with the room it gave you?
The Society is brand new, so there are no member stories here yet. What I can share is what people have said about working with me over the years.
Renee is there to help with clear and easy to understand information that also teaches me what to do for the future.
Angela Tempest, Skylark Virtual Services
Renee holds your hand as you build your internet business. She knows both the tech stuff and the marketing.
Barbara Allisen, 123 Kindergarten
I especially found your many product ideas, your mind clutter system to create a product and your price range suggestions most helpful.
Jessica Maria Britt
I've been frustrated with the technical minefield of setting up an online product for the last two weeks. She gave me some of her time last night and some great recommendations which will NO DOUBT save me stacks of time and money this year.
Julie Chinmayi Dori
Love my calls with Renee Shupe - got me motivated to get a huge chunk of work done yesterday/today. Need motivation? She's your girl.
Amy Porter, Amy Gets Things Done
I used to tell Renee if she could get me tech savvy it would be a miracle...and now thanks to her I cruise into Google Analytics once a month and check my 5 reports and cruise on out!
Sarah Fults
I've been working online since 2008, and I run the whole thing solo from Northern Alberta. I still look after around 45 client websites, so when a lesson says "make a checkout link," I know exactly where people get stuck.
Right now my own money comes from a mix: a monthly letter, a few small products, recommendations of the tools I actually use, and website work for clients I've had for years. I'm building the same kind of business you are, in the same season of life.
I am doing this year with you, and you'll see what I try, flops included.
In Canada? Join for C$199 in Canadian dollars.
Click the button and check out. You'll get your login right away, and Week 1 opens Monday, January 4, 2027. The founding price is open until that day, and your price stays the same for as long as you're a member.
Just want the letter? Postmarked is $10 a month on its own.
Every lesson stays open, so you can catch up whenever you're ready, or take a month off when life gets busy.
I have a few of those logins myself. Each week here is one small thing, and the lesson is 15 minutes you can listen to on a walk. Even if you stop after Week 1, you'll have one more thing for sale than you had before.
Most of the experiments work with a small list, and some don't need one at all. A checkout link in your email signature works with whatever audience you've got.
Yes, if you're thinking of starting one. The first experiment is making one thing buyable, so you'll be selling long before everything feels ready. If you've got nothing to sell at all, you can pick a tool you already use and like, join its affiliate program and share your link once.
I do not know, and I'd be wary of anyone who says they do. Every business is different, and what you earn depends on your business and what you do with it.
Every week that's already open is there for you the moment you join, so you can start at Week 1 and go at your own pace.
So you can listen away from your desk. Every lesson has a written transcript too, if you'd rather read.
If you can send an email and make a checkout link, you're ready. Each experiment works with what you already use.
No. Most of the year runs on email, your signature and your website. A few weeks look at places like Pinterest and short video, and you can skip any that don't suit you.
No, and I won't ask for your logins. Each of us runs our own experiments in our own business.
The $10 monthly option is Postmarked, the letter on its own. The Society has the letter too, along with Money Flow, the Postcards and the Break Room.
The Society moves on to a new big experiment. Your membership renews once a year at the price you joined at, and you can cancel before it does.
Still have a question? Ask me here.
We start on Monday, January 4. I'll post my first experiment that week, so come tell me about yours.
$147 for the year at the founding price, then $197 a year.
